Hey, I Made a Website! (And Blog)

For those of you reading this who are new here, greetings and salutations!

My name is Rachel, and I've come all the way from my Instagram art account (@ramdart707) with a desire to do my OWN thing on my OWN website! (Because, of course, Instagram is being a little tricky right now)

Before going any further, I will give a little history of how this site came about...

How it all came to be

Unfortunately, I was not blessed with stellar coding skills along with my artistic ones, so I began designing with this Wix template way back in 2023 (3 years ago, I know...). Anyway, I've been humming and hawing about it for some time, and this summer I decided that I really wanted to write a BLOG! I already partially designed this as a portfolio website, having put some of my artwork on it, so I just added on a Blog through Wix as well, why not? Despite all the editing, re-editing, annoying layouts and unexpected costs associated with making a functioning website, I made it! It's a work in-progress, obviously... but it's here and it exists! Yay!

Why, though?

Well, I've been in a very reflective kind of mood about my art career over the past year. I graduated from my Art University over a year ago now, and what seemed like a good running start towards the Illustration Industry slowed down after awhile... until I realized I wasn't even making walking pace anymore. As some of you may know from Instagram, I barely posted monthly, and every time I did I would apologize, saying something like: "sorry for not posting much lately... it's been so long again..." etc.

I'm tired of doing that.

Writing a blog feels to me like escaping the crowd and finding some open space where I can breathe again, and not stress about my "content strategy" or "viral trends" or making reels to appease the Insta algorithm.

Even though the crowd has more opportunity for a chance discovery, I don't mind having this unknown little corner of the internet for my own peace and quiet.

What's next?

I'm thinking about adding more artwork to the Illustration Page eventually, as well as more sketches to the Sketchbook Page, since it's pretty sparse right now... Other than that, I'm really excited just to share my thoughts here on this Blog about art, music, my Christian faith, and a great many other things! So far this is my only post, so early visitors won't be able to see any of that stuff yet.

But also, if you're the kind of person who would like to spend time reading someone else's thoughts about things relating to art and life, and if you want to read a blog from a human who DOES NOT use any AI for art (nor writing), then maybe this is the place for you!
